The University offers BDS/MDS Courses in its dental college. IGNOU has designated this college as centre for PG Diploma in Oral Implantology. Chancellor of this University Dr. G.C. Srivastava is IAS (Retd.) and held important assignments like Chief Secretary, Govt. of Goa; Member Secretary, Twelfth Finance Commission in the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India; Chairman, Tariff Commission; Vice Chairman, Central Administrative Tribunal; and Secretary, Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

The Vice-Chancellor of this University Dr. V.B. Sahai, MBBS, MD, DMJ (London), LL.B, FIAFM, MBAFM (U.K.) is first Vice-Chancellor of the University who is Ex-Director General Medical Education, Uttar Pradesh and had been Ex-Principal GSVM Medical College, Kanpur & S.N. Medical College & Dean Faculty of Medicine, Agra.

Sharda University is a venture of the Sharda Group of Institutions at Greater Noida in Delhi (National Capital Region). The university is a privately managed organization approved by the State Legislative Assembly through Act 14 of 2009. The Act has already been assented by his Excellency the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and is operative since March 2009.

The history of the Sharda University and the sponsoring body is quite interesting. In the year 1995, when the province of Uttar Pradesh was still languishing due to inadequate capacity for engineering studies, the government cleared the way for private participation in professional education. Not many were willing to take up this challenge of creating an institution all from their own resources.  

In the year 1996, Sharda Education Trust was one among the first few Trusts who took up this challenge of providing value based professional education in the North. The first college was started in 1996 at Farah, Mathura. The leaders showed the way and others soon followed 

The group started various institutions during the next three years and in the year 2005 moved towards the Delhi (National Capital Region) which was slowly developing into an educational hub of its own. The campus at Greater Noida was thus established in the year 2005 with Engineering, Medical, Dental and Management courses.
