It is a matter of joy that the EPSI is organizing the National Convention on “Indian Higher Education- Vision for Quality, Autonomy & Accountability” on March 24 & 25 2012. .

The theme of the convention has been rightly chosen so as to reflect the pressing needs of the Indian higher education system. From what was a rigid, water-tight compartment for a long time, the Indian higher education scenario has slowly started germinating into a liberal one. But we have a long way to go in making our education system flexible and robust. If our higher education has to be world class, we must ensure quality and innovation in our teaching–learning process and infuse excellence in our research capabilities. Autonomy in education is the way forward for a country like India which is geographically large and culturally diverse. It goes without saying that quality and autonomy will prevail where accountability is the norm. Hence, the theme of this convention, which addresses these three important criteria in the Indian higher education arena, is very relevant and appropriate as we evolve into a mature education system.

I am confident that the deliberations of these two days would emerge as concrete steps to help the Indian higher education scale new heights and eventually conquer the world. EPSI has been doing a remarkable job in enhancing the quality of our education through periodic congregations like this one, inviting expert academicians and able administrators to share their thoughts.

I congratulate the organizers for the thoughtful choice of the topic for this convention and for their efforts in planning and organizing this event in a grand way. EPSI has made great beginning and I am confident that the measured steps of this organization will result in an enduring success for the Indian higher education

wish the convention all success.

With best wishes,

Dr.G.Viswanathan
